Sephiroth is the latest character to join the roster for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. He was announced during the pre-show for today’s The Game Awards. He comes to Smash in December of 2020.
Sephiroth is the long time antagonist to Cloud Strife, being the most iconic villain out of Final Fantasy VII. He even got his role upgraded in the game’s remake, bringing him into the game much earlier than his appearance in the original.
In Smash Bros, he has a number of attacks that pay homage to the character’s long history. His down special for example, should make most white mages extremely nervous…
In addition, Cloud’s Final Smash appears to change when used on Sephiroth, instead mimicking the Omnislash he uses at the end of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
The trailer itself has plenty of good meme-worthy moments, such as Smash Bros’ unrelenting courage in putting Mario into deathly situations. This time, Sephiroth takes his shot at reducing Mario’s lives.
The trailer even closes off with a nice nod to the movie, available on UMD.
