Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG Studio) have announced their latest addition to the Like A Dragon series, titled “Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.” The game was revealed during the September 2024 RGG Summit, showcasing a unique blend of the franchise’s signature style with pirate-themed elements.
Set for release on February 28, 2025 on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. The game will feature series favorite Goro Majima as the sole protagonist. The story takes place six months before the main events, with Majima mysteriously washed up on Rich Island near Hawaii. The narrative appears to connect to the aftermath of Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, involving the Palekana cult on Nele Island.
The reveal trailer displayed a mix of familiar Yakuza elements with new pirate-themed content, including potential ship combat. Producer Ryosuke Horii assured fans that despite its quirky appearance, the game will deliver the dramatic storylines and intense action sequences characteristic of the Yakuza series. Horii mentioned that there is still much unannounced information about the game, hinting at more reveals to come as the release date approaches.
Gameplay innovations include the ability to jump during battles for the first time in the series’ history. Players can switch between two combat styles: the fast-paced Mad Dog style and the new Sea Dog style, which allows for dual-wielding cutlasses and using special sidearms.
The game will utilize the Hawaii map from Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, along with new areas including ship-based locations. Fan-favorite mini-games such as Crazy Delivery, Dragon Kart, and Karaoke will return, alongside new additions like Outfits. The game will also feature live-action content called Masura’s Love Journey.
