Sega Games have filed various trademarks in Sakura names, as reported by Gematsu. These include Sakura Wars B.L.A.C.K., B.L.A.C.K., Sakura Isshin (translated as Restoration) and Sakura Kakumei (translated as Revolution) in Japan. The English version of the newest Sakura Wars game, known simply as Sakura Wars, had launched fairly recently on 28 April 2020. As a reboot of sorts of the series, this could indicate the game has been successful enough to warrant more titles, be it direct sequels or spin-offs. As it were, the anime for the newest game has been called a sequel.
Besides Sega, Bandai Namco has also filed trademarks for “Myosotis” in both English and Japanese, related to a recent trademark in Europe for Blooming of Forget-Me-Not. Forget-me-nots are the common name of flowering plants under the genus of myosotis.
Interior Night has also trademarked its name and logo. The studio was founded back in October 2017 by former Quantic Dream lead, Caroline Marchal. Sega Europe was meant to publish its first title which would have been a narrative-driven new IP, but parted ways with the developer in January 2019. This would be the first signs of activity by the studio since then.
As someone who adored the first Sakura Wars game, more in the series hinted by these Sega trademarks might be one heck of a nostalgia trip especially if they can bring in more cameos from the other games in the series. We’ll look forward to it!
