SEGA and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have announced they will release the highly anticipated sequel Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii earlier than initially planned. They will now launch the game on February 21, 2025, a week ahead of its original February 28 release date. The title will be available on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Masayoshi Yokoyama, head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, explained the reason for the date change in a video message: “This [new release date] is partly because development is progressing more smoothly than expected, but we also want to deliver the game to players around the world as soon as possible.” Yokoyama also credited the support from various teams at SEGA for making this earlier release possible.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii features Goro Majima, the fan-favorite anti-hero known as the “Mad Dog of Shimano,” in a new adventure set about six months after the events of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. The game introduces naval battles as a new gameplay element, alongside the series’ signature brawling action.
The story follows an amnesiac Majima as he awakens on a tropical beach and embarks on a pirate-themed journey. Players can expect to explore various locations beyond Hawaii, including Rich Island, Madlantis, and other hidden islands. For fans of the series and newcomers alike, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will deliver a unique blend of open-sea adventures and the over-the-top action the franchise is known for when it launches on February 21, 2025.
