The Sega Corporation officially established Sega Singapore Pte. Ltd, a Singapore-based subsidiary, on October 13th, 2022. This brings another major gaming publisher to Southeast Asia.
Sega says that they have established publishing bases and development studios all over the world, producing games and launching related businesses tailored to local markets. Sega Singapore will likewise be undertaking local market research to strengthen Sega’s initiatives within the Southeast Asian market, which is expected to grow significantly in the future.
“Singapore has achieved remarkable economic growth as a major hub in the Southeast Asian region given its convenient location and its business-friendly government policies. By establishing SEGA Singapore as a key base to lead future operations in Southeast Asia, we will continue to prepare for and investigate the establishment of further business operations in the region and strive to deliver Japanese content, including SEGA’s own IP, to more people around the world.”
The new division will have a capital of $350,000 Singaporean Dollars and its core business profile will be market research and marketing for Southeast Asia. It will also be 100% owned by Sega Corporation.
Sega has been a well-established publisher in the Japanese video game industry for decades. They are most well known for their mascot Sonic The Hedgehog as well as the ever-popular Like A Dragon (Yakuza) franchise. The Sega corporation also owns the gaming studio Atlus, who develop the popular Persona and Shin Megami Tensei RPG series.
Their latest launch will be Sonic Frontiers which releases for PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on the 8th of November 2022.
