Industry veteran Shuji Utsumi has been appointed as the President, COO, Representative Director CEO of SEGA of America, and CEO of SEGA Europe.
The announcement was made by Sega Sammy, SEGA’s parent company, confirming Shuji Utsumi will be stepping into his new role.
Utsumi also shared the news on his LinkedIn, unveiling that he will officially assume the role in April, transitioning from his current roles as Co-COO, President of Consumer Game and Transmedia, as well as Representative Director CEO of SEGA of America, and Chairman of SEGA Europe.
Before SEGA, Utsumi worked at Sony Computer Entertainment America as VP of product acquisition and helped launch the first PlayStation in North America.
His tenure at SEGA also saw his contribution to launching the SEGA Dreamcast outside of Japan.
In the early 2000s, he also worked at Disney Interactive and played a pivotal role in the creation of the Kingdom Hearts series.
He also founded Q Entertainment in 2004 before rejoining SEGA in 2020 as CSO of Sega of Japan and general manager of Sega’s Game Contents & Service Business HQ.
Q Entertainment was a successful award-winning developer and publisher, known for their works like Lumines and Ninety-Nine Nights.
