Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh! is working on a new manga for Marvel titled Secret Reverse featuring both Spider-Man and Iron Man.
According to a tweet from Viz Media, “Spider-Man and Iron Man travel to Japan to battle an evil gaming magnate and his deadly new technology in Secret Reverse”. While it is unlikely that Spider-Man and Iron Man would fight their foes by means of card games, one can only hope.
The manga is set to release in Summer 2022.
Before it is known as the card game phenomenon it is now, Yu-Gi-Oh! started off as a one-shot manga by Takahashi. It was first published 25 years ago in 1996 on Weekly Shounen Jump. The original Yu-Gi-Oh! was more of a horror series, with protagonist Yugi taking part in dangerous games that usually result in death. The trading card game and anime based on it only came later.
Western comic book characters collaborating with Japanese creators and brands is not exactly a new phenomenon. Last month, Batman appeared in Square Enix’s waifu gacha game, SINoALICE, together with Joker, Harley Quinn and even Catwoman.
In other related news, Yu-Gi-Oh! collaborated with clothing brand Hypland, opening Pop Up stores in the US.
