Singaporean fans of Sword Art Online will be able to catch the upcoming SAO Progressive movie, Aria of a Starless Night in Singapore theaters sometime 2021. SAO Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night will be screened in Singapore theaters through ODEX Private Limited, as announced via their Facebook page. ODEX typically also distributes to other countries within Southeast Asia, though it was not specified at this juncture.
The movie is the second film in the Sword Art Online franchise. However, chronologically, it takes place in the earlier episodes of season 1 of the Sword Art Online anime. This is because it is based on the Progressive light novel spin-off series of the main franchise. Sword Art Online: Progressive revisits Kirito and Asuna’s earlier days and how they climbed the starting floors of Aincrad Tower.
The Japanese release is slated for a Autumn 2021 screening according to the Japanese website, with the following keyart promoting the movie. Presumably Singaporean fans won’t need to wait too long till they can watch the movie themselves either.
The movie will be including a new character, Mito, voiced by Inori Minase, while leads Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Haruka Tomatsu will return to voice Kirito and Asuna respectively.
