Sands of Salzaar is a new game by Chinese indie studio, Han-Squirrel Studio, which in 3 days, achieved 50,000 copies sold on Steam. Brought up by ZhugeEX, Steam continues being a strong distribution platform for Chinese indies for the domestic market.
The game itself is set in a fantastical desert, an open world role playing game. The game is currently in early access, available at USD$15 (at a 15% discount) or your regional equivalent. At time of writing, Sands of Salzaar is only in Simplified Chinese, but the developer promises that English language support is a top priority to be added ASAP.
The game has garnered mostly positive reviews, with mod and workshop support already available. Sands of Salzaar mentions the following features:
- An always changing world where the no one adventure is the same
- Puzzles to solve, challenging enemies and bosses
- “Shape the conclusion to your game and discover hidden events and stories. Recruit and train troops to engage enemies in massive battles.”
- Good strategies required
Comparisons are drawn to Kenshi, another game with a similar concept. The game is expected to be in Early Access for a year as the developers work on content, optimizations, localization and including player-created content.
