Sakamoto Days, the action comedy manga series about a retired hitman by mangaka Yuto Suzuki is getting a TV anime adaptation.
As announced, the Sakamoto Days anime is being produced by TMS Entertainment, the animation studio behind Lupin the Third, Rent-A-Girlfriend, and Undead Unluck, just to name a few. Sakamoto Days is currently scheduled for a January 2025 premiere.
Tomokazu Sugita, best known for his voice as Sakata Gintoki in Gintama and Joseph Joestar in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, will be voicing the titular retired hitman, Taro Sakamoto.
Helming the production as director is Masaki Watanabe, who has previously worked on Bakumatsu and Battle Spirits: Mirage.
Taku Kishimoto, who previously worked on BLUE LOCK, will be writing the series composition, while Yo Moriyama, Megalo Box director, will be the character designer for the show.
The premise of Sakamoto Days follows Taro Sakamoto, a retired hitman who has settled into a quiet and mundane life as a family man along with his loving wife and daughter.
Since his unexpected marriage, Sakamoto has grown out of shape and has been working as a humble convenience store owner.
However, the darkness of the criminal underworld still follows him, and thus he has to do what he can to protect his humble life and family, as well as a a young employee at his small store, Shin.
The manga series was serialized in 2020 in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump and has 16 tankoubon volumes as of April 2024.
