The newest trailer for the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal shows off the Outer Senshi, even giving fans their first ever glimpse of Super Sailor Saturn’s transformation sequence.
The film, which releases February 11th, is the second part of the Sailor Moon film series. The first part released last month in January. Sailor Moon Eternal is an adaptation of the Dream arc of the Sailor Moon manga, and acts as the fourth season of Sailor Moon Crystal, the more faithful adaptation/reboot of Sailor Moon.
It’s directed by Chiaki Kon, who also directed Season 3 of Sailor Moon Crystal. Series creator Naoko Takeuchi is credit with supervising production of the film.
Sailor Moon has always been known for its lavish transformation sequences, but this footage gives us a glimpse at the Super Sailor transformations for the Outer Senshi. The standout here is Super Sailor Saturn, whose transformation has never been shown on screen prior to this.
It’s been a rough time for anime movies, with the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to make release schedules full of uncertainty. It hasn’t been a total halt on movies in Japan, as last year’s Demon Slayer movie still managed to break records despite the presence of an ongoing pandemic. However, some movies have been hit harder by the pandemic, such as Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice upon A Time, which was supposed to release last month.
