Indie developer Reikon Games, the studio behind Ruiner, has reportedly laid off 60 to 70 employees, or about 80% of its workforce.
In an extensive games industry layoffs report by Kotaku, Reikon Games has reportedly laid off about 60 to 70 staff in total, about 80% of its studio.
The layoffs were reportedly sudden and without any warning, and multiple former Reikon Games developers have taken to LinkedIn and social media saying they had lost their jobs this week.
“Unfortunately, today, like many others affected by a mass layoff, I find myself in a new chapter after parting ways with the fantastic team at Reikon Games, where I dedicated many years to my craft,” a former 3D Environment Artist posted.
The indie studio was known for its work on the 2017 isometric shooter Ruiner, which received generally positive reviews from critics and players.
After Ruiner, Reikon Games teased its next project dubbed Codename: Final Form, which will be a science fiction title publisher under Embracer Group’s Prime Matter label.
This news continues the ongoing maelstrom of disheartening industry layoffs, as we learned that Microsoft is laying off 1,900 staff across its Xbox, Activision Blizzard, and ZeniMax teams, Destroy All Human! Remake studio Black Forest Games reportedly cut off 50% of its workforce, and Outriders developers People Can Fly facing layoffs, all on the same day, today.
The industry faced devastating mass layoffs last year with an estimated 10,000 developers losing their jobs, and now nearly 6,000 developers have been let go in the first month of 2024.
