The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is the latest entry to ROG’s ever-expanding line of gaming phones. Packaged in a new sleek box, we’re going to take a closer look to see what’s in store for us.
The Box
ROG Phones always come in these unique phone boxes and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is no exception. This time, the box is shaped in an imperfect octagonal figure (it has 8 sides), which kind of looks like an onigiri. And in all honesty, I really like the design.
I’m a big fan of the dark metallic gray colours, which pairs really well with the general futuristic design, giving it an overall sleek Sci-Fi feel to the whole box. Not to mention the fonts chosen at the bottom of the box really completes the modern style that they’re going for.
ROG Phone 7 Ultimate
From a first glance, the one thing that I noticed that was different between the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate and its predecessor is the camera module. While subtle, the ROG Phone 7 has a smaller camera module as compared to the Phone 6; even the placement of the flash is slightly angled to follow the shape of the camera module. Overall, I prefer this new design as it gives off a a nice and clean look to the back of the phone.
Similarly, ROG also made the back LED panel smaller as compared with the Phone 6 and once again, it makes the overall design minimalistic and clean.
While they didn’t go as hard with the design on the back of the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate as they did with 6, they certainly made it up by introducing a new two-toned design; giving the phone more depth in its design without making it too noisy.
I’m also a big fan of the panel lining design that’s present near the AeroActive Portal and the back LED panel. It reminds me a lot of the intricate details you can see from mecha robots, especially with Gundam designs; and this pleases me to no end.
The AeroActive Portal also makes its return with the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, since you’ll need to connect it with the AeroActive Cooler 7 to utilise it.
AeroActive Cooler 7
With a new ROG phone comes a new AeroActive Cooler too, where ROG did some design changes for the cooler. The new design see it change the criss-cross pattern from the 6 to a more streamlined triangular arrow shape; giving it a more sleek and sharp look which accompanies the new ROG Phone aesthetic perfectly.
We also get to see more RGB lighting in the new Cooler design, mainly present in the middle of the cooler; which compliments the futuristic look. Another neat detail with the Cooler 7 is how they made the ROG logo look more pixelated, making it resemble the AniMe Matrix design that the ROG laptops have.
The POGO pin makes a return, but with a good reason. The Cooler 7 comes packing with a subwoofer, so the pin is there to transmit audio signal, giving users that extra bass whenever they plug their phone with the cooler.
As of time of writing, the pricing and release date for the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate for Malaysia is yet to be determined. For more information, do check out the official ROG website here.
