Following the recent commercial challenges faced by Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, developer Rocksteady Studios has reportedly undergone another round of layoffs at the end of 2024. According to reports from Eurogamer, multiple employees, including programmers, artists, and QA staff, have been affected by these latest cuts.
This follows previous layoffs at the studio in September 2024, when Rocksteady’s QA department was significantly reduced from 33 to 15 staff members. These new redundancies come in the wake of Suicide Squad’s disappointing performance, which resulted in a $200 million loss for parent company Warner Bros.
The game, which was developed by the studio known for the acclaimed Batman Arkham series, faced several challenges during its development, including delays and criticism of its live service elements. Despite being one of the most anticipated titles in the industry, it received mixed reviews upon its release in February 2024.
Rocksteady recently announced that Suicide Squad’s current season will be its final one, marking the end of new content development for the game. These layoffs are part of a broader impact on Warner Bros. Games, with their Montreal studio also experiencing significant job cuts in December, where 99 positions were eliminated, many of which were supporting Suicide Squad’s additional content development.
Warner Bros. has not yet provided an official response regarding these recent layoffs at Rocksteady, similar to their silence following the September redundancies. The studio’s future projects remain unclear at this time.
