Best known for League of Legends, Riot Games is one of the biggest game companies in the world with 2500 employees. However it is now revealed that the work culture implemented inside the company wasn’t as healthy as most of us expected. A current and a former employee of Riot Games recently decided to file a lawsuit against the company for sexism and gender-based discrimination.
Earlier this year, Kotaku has revealed the company’s “bro-culture” citing experiences from over 20 employees including Jessica Negron – one of the two plaintiffs in this lawsuit. According to the report, the company with 80% male regularly turned down female applicants for not fitting the company’s image of “core gamers”. Moreover, the company reinforced a culture that hires and promotes aggressive male personalities, but disadvantages and harms female recruits and employees.
It is also revealed that Riot pays men more than women who are fulfilling the same job role, promoting men into more superior roles more frequently than women, and demoting women who had similar qualifications as well-compensated men. By filing the lawsuit, the complaints are hoping to stop Riot from creating, encouraging and maintaining the accused work environment. You can read the entire lawsuit here.
Riot Games has responded with a statement saying that they will take the allegations seriously and investigate them thoroughly. What are your thoughts on this matter? Tell us your opinions below!
