Adult Swin has ordered a ten-episode anime series based on their popular comedy series, Rick and Morty.
The anime will be directed by Takashi Sano, most well known for acting as the director for the anime adaptation of the manhwa series Tower of God. He also worked on a number of Lupin III projects.
Sano says that while he will adapt certain themes from the series, the Rick and Morty anime will be a standalone original work.
“The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion,” Sano said. “It’s such a life-affirming sight, and Jerry is no exception.” He adds, “I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!”
Sano has previously directed two Rick and Morty shorts, ‘Rick and Morty vs Genocider’ and ‘Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil)’ meaning he has experience working with the IP.
The anime series is being produced by Telecom Animation Film who Sano had worked with on Tower of God and Lupin III Part V. They have also produced the popular anime series ‘Please don’t bully me, Nagatoro-san’.
