Ahead of its 9 September launch, we have some Re:Zero Lost in Memories gameplay preview, courtesy of 4gamer. The basic conceit of Lost in Memories is being an “IF” story, diverging from the canon story with 2D battles thrown in.
As is usually the case, characters will have their strengths and weaknesses. They appear to have at least three skills, with normal attacks and specials. The stronger the skill, the longer their cooldowns will be. It would seem that leaders will also have a skill, presumably a passive skill, that encourages you to find synergistic compositions.
When characters execute their specials, they will be accompanied by animations, on both their SD models and their cut-ins. Improve their ability in battle with Memory Crystals! Additionally, there will be skill boards/skill trees for even more enhancement.
There appears to be a PVP element with the arena, as well as something dubbed “Tower of the Strong”. In the latter, you’ll progress through escalating floors which may restrict the use of the same party for consecutive floors.
Arguably the main draw of the game would be the IF story branches. Going by the screenshots, there is an incredibly extensive flowchart of alternate scenarios, so fans would be able to expect a very involved story. Any fan translators on hand will have a lot to work on.
We have a week to go before the official expected launch of Re:Zero Lost in Memories, so this gameplay preview will soon be something you can try out for yourself. We’d assume it won’t be a while, if at all, this game gets localized for audiences outside of Japan, but we’ll stay tuned.
