The second movie for Bushiroad’s mixed media franchise Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight has had its release date announced.
According to Bushiroad, the film will release in Japan May 21, 2021. While this is a theatrical run for the movie, no digital release has been announced yet.
Advanced ticket sales for the movie will start December 18th, 2020. Those who purchase them from participating theatres or 7-11 will get a special A4 Clear folder featuring characters from the movie.
The film is a follow up to the first movie, Rondo Rondo Rondo. Rondo is a compilation movie, summarizing the 12 episode-run of the anime into a two-hour movie. Similar to other compilation movies like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, however, the movie takes a few turns not in the anime.
We’re led to believe that this second movie will follow the events of Rondo, rather than the anime.
While the movie currently has no title beyond Revue Starlight , a short teaser was shown at the end of Rondo, showing the main character, Karen Aijo monologuing about her “stage”.
Outside of its movies and anime, the Revue Starlight franchise also has several musicals, as well as a successful mobile game. The cast of main characters share the same voice actors, even across each medium.
