Bushiroad and Aniplex have dropped the second trailer for the Revue Starlight movie, leaving us with more questions than answers as we get more of a glimpse as to what might have been teased.
Unlike the movie’s first trailer, which caught us up with the girls of Seisho Music Academy’s 99th class, the second trailer almost exclusively focuses on the main characters- Karen Aijo, her childhood best friend Hikari Kagura, as well as the mysterious Giraffe, tied to the theatre where the girls had been fighting their revues.
Karen is shown to be in a desert, not dissimilar to the one at the end of the anime. Both the Giraffe and Hikari reference the destruction of the stage, against shots of the magical theatre central to the show’s premise as it seemingly crumbles into rubble.
Karen and Hikari are seemingly at odds yet again in the Revue Starlight movie second trailer, as they battle it out one more time in the theatre before it crumbles apart.

The summary of the movie has also been updated, seemingly referencing the end of Rondo Rondo Rondo:
Starlight – it is the tragedy of a beautiful separation.
Two girls, bathed in the glitter of this play, exchange their fates.
Eventually, they stood on the “stage of destiny” and
They re-produced a “new chapter” where they meet again beyond the tragedy.
The girls grasped the star at the top of the tower.
So, how does this new chapter end?
“We are already on the stage.
Karen Aijo. Third year student at Seishou Music Academy.
The curtain rises on the last star festival.
It seems like the chaos of the trailer might be a direct consequence of the anime’s ending, in which Karen forcefully changes the ending of the play Starlight to save Hikari. We don’t know if Hikari’s antagonistic appearance in the trailer is a result of the interference, or just another case of Hikari confronting Karen to do what’s best for her, as she does multiple times in the anime.
The trailer also has yet to explain the definition of Wild Screen Baroque, a term used in both the promotional material for the movie, as well as a significant point in the ending for Rondo Rondo Rondo.
The Revue Starlight movie was supposed to release this month, but had been delayed following the ongoing Covid 19 Pandemic. The movie’s new release date is June 4th, 2021.
