The new zombie movie, Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City, based on the Capcom survival horror video game series has launched its first official trailer. It will premier in the US on November 24th and likely the rest of the world around a similar time.
You can watch the trailer below:
Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City is a reboot of the movie franchise that has no connections to the previous films by Paul W. S. Anderson. There are hopes for the movie to begin a new movie franchise that is closer in the story to the games and with a more heavy focus on the horror aspects of those games.
Although there is obviously still a lot of action in the movie which can be seen in the trailer as well as a rather odd choice of ‘Whats up’ by 4 Non Blonds as the background track, a song usually associated with memes of He-Man discovering his sexuality.
Resident Evil centers on Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario), coming to Raccoon City and teaming up with Leon S. Kennedy (Avan Jogia) in order to uncover the hidden secrets of the Pharmaceutical Company Umbrella, and find her brother Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell), just as a zombie hoard is unleashed on the city.
The film seems to primarily be based on Resident Evil 2 with the zombie invasion of Raccoon City but elements from the other games are also shown such as the appearance of Lisa Trevor, a mutated human who plays a major role in Resident Evil 1.
For we see characters from Resident 1 and 2 appear as the stars of the movie:
- Kaya Scodelario – Claire Redfield
- Hannah John-Kamen – Jill Valentine
- Robbie Amell – Chris Redfield
- Tom Hopper – Albert Wesker
- Avan Jogia – Leon S. Kennedy
- Donal Logue – Chief Brian Irons
- Neal McDonough – William Birkin
- Lily Gao – Ada Wong
- Chad Rook – Richard Aiken
- Marina Mazepa – Lisa Trevor
Will Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City be the more faithful adaptation of the games that fans have longed for. We’ll find out this November.
