Voice Actress Lily Gao received a slew of harassment over her performance as Ada Wong in the recently released Resident Evil 4 Remake.
This harassment has led to Gao deactivating replies on her Instagram and has hidden almost all of her posts. Several of her previous included promotions for the game, talking about how excited she was the take the role.
Several people have criticized Gao’s performance as Ada Wong in the Resident Evil 4 Remake. While some of these criticisms are valid, several users, as usual, have taken things too far, attacking Gao’s person and claiming that she “ruined” the game.
According to Eurogamer, one comment said “Your voice acting was horrible in the RE4 Remake. It sounded super stiff and there was nothing seductive about it. It didn’t fit at all omfg I hope they don’t hire you as Ada’s voice actor for another game.”
Another said, “Great now when Separate Ways [DLC] comes out I have to put it on mute. Worst voice acting I have heard in years. Why Capcom hired you instead of the past actress is beyond me”.
Several netizens have since come out in defense of Lily Gao, condemning those that have sent her harassment.
“I’ve been seeing the hate towards Lilly Gao and I don’t get why in this community if an RE character doesn’t look or perform right, people go find the real-life actor and harass them”. says prominent Resident Evil Youtuber Suzi Hunter. “If you don’t like something, that isn’t an invitation to be a prick. Just leave her alone”.
Retro Gaming Podcast Retro Blast likewise commented that “the harassment of Lily Gao by RESIDENT EVIL fans is horrible. She’s a human being. If you didn’t like her Ada performance, fine, but attacking the actress is ridiculous and I’m extremely disappointed to be a part of this fanbase today. Be better and touch some grass”.
Regardless of your opinions on her performance in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, harassment is never acceptable. We wish Lily Gao all the best going forward.
