The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has announced Relayer, a new simulation RPG featuring giant robots by the same people who made God Wars.
The Weekly Famitsu issue won’t be out until May 27th, later this week. However, the information about Relayer was revealed via promotional materials for the upcoming issue, including that it would be getting a 14-page spread explaining more about the game in-depth. The game’s key art is also the featured cover for the magazine.
The game was previously operating under the codename Project Stella, prior to this pre-announcement. The game’s official social media channels have also rebranded with the new name, along with a 7-second teaser of one of the robots taking off.
Funnily enough whoever runs the Relayer Twitter account hasn’t wiped it completely, with the actual account having previously been used for a game called Hoshi Musume All Stars (lit. Star Girls All Stars). The Twitter has many images of sprite art for characters, which can all be safely assumed to not be a part of the game.
Considering the account mentions Relayer as well as Asterism, a ship from Hoshi Musume, in the same tweet though, there’s a non-zero chance that the game could take place within the same universe as Hoshi Musume. However, we won’t know until Weekly Famitsu releases.
As the game is being pegged as a “simulation” RPG, it’s unclear if this means the game will likely be more of a strategy/tactics game rather than a real-time action. It’s been an interesting year for new mecha franchises, as Bandai has also announced their own non-Gundam IP due out later this year.
