The Razer Viper V3 Hyperspeed Wireless Mouse is the latest addition in Razer’s growing catalogue of products.
Design
The Viper V3 sports one of the most simplistic designs from Razer’s catalogue. It has a sleek black finish with minimal branding and no RGB lights. There is a singular LED, but its purpose is to indicate your current DPI setting, which is a necessity. The only branding on the mouse is the black logo, with the name of the mouse being on the bottom, located near the switch and the other components.
The texture of the mouse has a really nice feel to it, with a slightly matte texture that is smooth, but also has a good grip to it. The side buttons have a rougher texture, but we’re fine with it. The bottom of the mouse also has a white mouse feet made of 100% PTFE, and a cover for the battery chamber.
For better or for worse, the mouse uses a AA batteries. As there are various factors that will come into play when determining the battery life of the mouse, such as the type of battery you’re using etc.
There is no option for opting to use it wired, as the mouse uses AA batteries and lacks a port, but it comes with a 2.4GHz wireless receiver included in the box.
However, we do have an issue with the placement of the receiver, which is located under the battery, which means the battery has to be removed in order to slot it in or remove. There’s a more expensive version of the Viper that includes the Razor HyperPolling Wireless Dongle that unlocks polling rate options to up to 4000Hz which fixes this issue, but the version we’re reviewing does not come with it.
Experience
We’re judging the mouse based on experiences with FPS and MOBA games, as we believe that is often the reason why someone would get a mouse like this. Even without comparing it other mouses, we think that the Viper V3 offers some really good user experiences.
Not only does the shape of the mouse make it good for gripping, it only comes in at 82 grams, which is fairly light. Lighter mouses provide a better flicking experience, as it won’t feel like you’re flinging a chunk of concrete, but if you prefer heavier mouses that offers better control, then this mouse might not be for you.
There is nearly no friction when gliding across the mousepad, making the experience of using it really smooth. The side button is also positioned well, thus clicking it was never an issue.
Razor products require you to use Razor Synapse to customise the product to your liking, and this mouse is no exception. Customising with Razor Synapse isn’t a particularly pleasant experience, coupled with the fact that their products also don’t have real on-board memory, your settings will be reset when Razor Synapse is uninstalled, can be annoying.
Thankfully, they did implement a proper on board memory for the Viper V3, so your settings will be retained even after uninstalling Razer Synapse, which is an amazing new addition.
Verdict
The Razor Viper V3 Hyperspeed sports features that are well above its price class, and can even be compared to those that are in higher price ranges, which is a testament to its effectiveness, as other mouses with similar features typically cost double the amount.
For a mouse at this price range, the Razor Viper V3 Hyperspeed is a great option, as it’s lightweight, smooth, and comfortable to grip. The minimalistic design is also sleek and discrete, giving it a stealthy look.
The only negative for us is the USB Receiver being located behind the battery compartment, but it is still a very good mouse that can give much more than those within the same price range. If you’re looking for a lightweight wireless mouse, then this would be one of our top recommendations.
