Keyboards always seem like a pretty easy device to get right, as long as you can type on them, they’re good to go. The Razer Deathstalker V2 Pro, however, showed me just what a good quality premium keyboard could bring to your desktop setup.
Razer’s latest ultra-slim ergonomic wireless keyboard proves to be not only comfortable to type on whether that’d be for work or gaming but it has a number of features that make it far more practical to use and personalize to your liking. At RM 879, it is a bit on the costly side but I can deny the high quality makes it well worth at least a look.
Design
Razer Deathstalker V2 pro is a low-profile keyboard, meaning that the keys are shorter in height and the switches have a short travel time. In terms of design, the device has a very standard look for a keyboard, coming in black color but with a nice aluminum top case for protection. It also has two adjustable legs which are 6o and 9o giving fairly good options for those that prefer to type at an angle.
In addition to being a full-sized keyboard, the Deathstalker also features special media keys in its upper right corner. The media keys have two buttons: the first one is the long one which can be used for adjusting the volume of your computer and the other one is the play, pause, previous, and forward buttons. If you’re listening to a song and want to move on to another, you can do so with just the press of a button three times.
Additionally, you can connect the keyboard in three different ways: HyperSpeed, Bluetooth, and wired. With the HyperSpeed connection, the keyboard includes a dongle that you have to plug into your computer. The other two options are pretty self-explanatory: connect it to your computer’s Bluetooth functions or connect it straight to the PC with the USB port.
I really like the high amount of practicality and options the Deathstalker V2 Pro allows. The media keys make playing music or films less of a hassle and offering three different connection ports is a nice touch, allowing people to connect the keyboard in a way that suits them best.
Typing
For the typing experience, the Deathstalkers V2 Pro is a comfortable keyboard with well-sized buttons and a good amount of distance between each of them. I’ll admit it doesn’t have as much pressure as a mechanical keyboard which can be distracting when gaming. After a few rounds of Valorant though, I got pretty used to it and it played fine.
While the Deathstalker V2 Pro may look like your normal black keyboard, turning it on also reveals its Razer trademark RGB lighting under each key. You can change and customize the RGB using the Razer Synapse software with more than 10 effects that it can use including Static, Wave, and Fire. These make the keyboard really shine while not being too bright to be irritating. While I’m not the biggest fan of RGB, the different effects do have an almost mesmerizing effect quality to them that can help make late next gaming sessions a more immersive experience.
Battery
Another key strength of the Deathstalker V2 Pro is its battery life. The keyboard can go for 40 hours straight with its’ RGB brightness at 50%. Chances are most people aren’t going to be using a keyboard without a way to charge it nearby so it’s safe to say that when using this machine, battery life is not something you have to worry about
You can also easily check the battery life of the keyboard above the arrow keys. It’s a small feature but again, the show’s just how convenient the Deathstalker can be.
Razer Synapse
It wouldn’t be a Razer product without their Razer Synapse software. This allows you to fully customize the lighting and power for the keyboard.
For the customization tabs, you have three ways to take control of the keyboard. The first one is Gaming mode which will turn off some of the keys like the Windows key, Menu Key, Alt + Tab, and Alt + F4. Personally, I find this really helpful because I always press Windows Keys by mistake.
The next tab is the Hyperspeed multi-Device pairing. For this one, you will need other Razer products that have the same feature. You can connect all of your Razer products using one dongle only. It’s pretty useful if you have multiple Razer devices cutting down the cables and connections coming off your computer.
Finally, there’s the lighting tab where you can set the RGB lighting brightness from 0 to 100. You also can turn off the RGB light when the computer or laptop is in sleep or idle mode. These are pretty self-explanatory but there’s far more you can do with the RGB than turn down the brightness.
Effects
Razer Synapse is also where you can customize effects for the RGB lighting using Chroma Studio. Here you can choose either quick or advanced effects. For the quick effects, there are a lot of basic effects you can use such as solid, fire, or breathing that can help make the keyboard feel more alive through the RGB.
With the advanced effects, you can customize every light that appears on every key. It’s a high amount of customization that allows you to really make the keyboard your own and is bound to make more aesthetic-oriented users very happy.
Opinion
There is something to be said about a device that just gets the job done well and allows you to use it the way you want. The Razer Deathstalkers V2 Pro Keyboard is comfortable to type on, and incredibly durable. The real bonus though is the many small features like the media buttons and RGB lighting that make the keyboard all the more convenient to use and personalize for your set-up.
The only real downside for the laptop is that it’s a little on the pricey side at RM 879. That being said, a lot of mechanical or premium keyboards go for around the same price so I suppose it’s not asking for much more than anyone else on the market.
Overall, if you’re looking for a high-quality keyboard that simply allows you to type, game well, and gives you multiple ways to make doing so less of a hassle, the Razer Deathstalker will very much do the job.
You can purchase the Razer Deathstalker V2 Pro on Razer’s Official Website or at select retail partners.
