Pyra from Xenoblade Chronicles is the newest character coming to Super Smash Bros. , as the first of big announcements coming from the Nintendo Direct today.
She comes as a dual character with Mythra, true to her original appearance in Xenoblade Chronicles. Rather than have Mythra be an alternate skin, her gimmick appears to involve switching between the two characters.
Sadly, critics of the over reliance on swordsman tropes might be a little unhappy to know that she has a lot of the standard swordsman moveset that’s become a meme in the Smash community.
Pyra will be added to Smash in March, and will likely get the “Mr Sakurai Presents” treatment closer to the character’s release date, where they go over the mechanics behind Pyra in greater detail.
According to the trailer, Pyra will focus more on power, while switching out with Mithra to go for a faster playstyle.
Shulk is also shown at the end of Pyra’s trailer, though it’s not known if he’d be getting anything new the same way Cloud did with the Sephiroth update.
Pyra is the latest character to join the Fighter Pass Vol. 2, after Minecraft Steve and Sephiroth. She’ll be able to purchase on her own or as a part of Fighter Pass 2 for a cheaper price.
