Tencent Games has launched the beta of PUBG Mobile (绝地求生:刺激战场) in China since February 2018, but recently it has been shut down. The reason is that the game was not approved by the government for monetization after over a year of waiting. In replacement, the China gaming giant launches a similar mobile game titled Game for Peace (和平精英) which is approved for monetization in April.
Game for Peace is basically identical to PUBG Mobile, but with an anti-terrorism theme that pays tribute to the Chinese air force. Minor changes to reduce the violent aspects have been made too. Users from China’s PUBG Mobile are able to port their accounts to the new game, so the disruption would be minimal.
It would be really unfortunate for a huge game to shut down like that (in China), but we are glad that we can still continue our progress in the new alternative. What are your thoughts? Tell us in the comment section below!
