A job posting online has confirmed the existence of a new manga-based fighting game, being developed for the PS5.
Thanks to a job listing on Freelance Hub, we have a few details about this upcoming project:
As mentioned before, the fighting game is being developed for PS5. We don’t know if this means it will be exclusive yet, or if they are just developing it with the PS5 in mind before releasing it for the other platforms.
The listing mentions that the project would be “rewarding for fans of manga”, and is self-described as being a “large-scale IP”.
No publisher has been mentioned, but Gematsu has reported on multiple project rumors involving One Piece and My Hero Academia, and considering Bandai Namco Entertainment’s hold on publishing most anime-related video games it stands to reason that they might be the publisher for this project.
The rumors were following trademarks for One Piece Odyssey, and MHUI and MHUR, leading fans to suspect this fighting game would be related to one of the three trademarks.
Don’t Expect To See This PS5 Fighting Game Any Time Soon
Of course, the listing on Freelance Hub makes it sound like the project is still very much in early development, so fans shouldn’t expect any big announcements regarding it any time soon.
There’s also the problem with the definition of fighting game- a lot of places will consider any game with a VS mode a fighting game, such as with the Demon Slayer Hinokami Chronicles.
