A number of users have been reporting that their PS4 consoles have been bricked due to the v9.0 firmware update. The software update roll-out on 15 September was supposed to include some new features, described as such in brief:
We’re also introducing some new features for PS4, including the ability for players to view their PS5 trophies on their PS4 profile and Trophy list. Players can also view other players’ PS5 trophies on PS4. On both PS4 and PS5 consoles, Party owners now also have the ability to disband a Party without having to remove players individually.
You can read some of the comments left by PS4 console owners regarding the v9.0 update here, where there are people who say they have had no issues either. There is some concern that Sony is not responding quickly enough to the apparent widespread issue, claiming that the update was downloaded anyway even if they chose not to do so due to these issues.
Issues include:
- Blue blinking light, indicating hardware or OS error
- Not powering on
- Significant slowdowns
- Errors to get the update to install in the first place
The update is required if you want to access the internet or online Playstation Store, so it’s inconvenient at the very least.
