aNCHOR, formerly known as ixtl, the publisher of the Muv-Luv series has just announced that there will be a new smartphone game project that is currently going with the title “Project Immortal“. The reveal was first made at its Still Breathing anniversary event in the past weeks, where it was showcased as a fan project. The developer confirmed that there is a proper project being worked on.
Project Immortal will adapt the settings of the original Muv-Luv, which for the uninitiated, is an adult game franchise that made its debut in 2003. Its real claim to fame however is the fact that it was a well-written and competent science fiction story. Back to the project itself, a young fan going by the name Kitakuou had presented the idea to series author Yoshimune Kouki, who took a liking for it. Fans resounded that notion, and after some talks, the project was officially greenlit as a collaborative effort between aNCHOR and Kitakuou.
Of course, you will first want to familiarise yourself with the franchise, which is currently made available on Steam:
The Muv-Luv series is an epic saga told in three parts: Muv-Luv Extra, Muv-Luv Unlimited, and Muv-Luv Alternative. What begins as a tongue-in-cheek romantic comedy ultimately transforms into an action-packed thrill ride in a war-torn alternate reality, and it’s this drastic-yet-methodical genre twist that makes the final chapter the most highly-revered visual novel of all time. This is a story that will plant seeds in your brain early in the first act that you won’t even notice until they sprout in the third for maximum narrative payoff and crushing emotional impact. Don’t fall for Extra’s cutesy exterior. This series ventures into some of the darkest thematic territory you’ll ever see, and when the final curtain closes, you’ll likely need a forklift to pick your jaw up off the floor. Make no mistake: this is a story that will challenge you in ways few works of fiction dare attempt, and an emotional tour de force unlike any other.
