Producer Yosuke Saito recently promised that the NieR series would continue as long as creator Yoko Taro is still alive to work on it in an industry presentation.
As first reported by 4Gamer.net, the developers of the NieR series including creator Yoko Taro had a presentation at the South Korean conference event G-Star 2023, and producer Yosuke Saito assures that the series would continue as he closes the session.
The presentation is conducted by the developers of the NieR series, which include the creator himself, Yoko Taro, producer Yosuke Saito, series composer Keiichi Okabe, game designer Takahisa Taura, and character designer Akihiko Yoshida.
As an industry talk, the presentation focuses on the pre-production phase and development process of 2017’s NieR: Automata, providing insight and trivia about the game that skyrocketed the once-niche series into popularity.
Some notable details shared were how 2B’s distinctive “gothic-lolita girl with katana” design was aimed at appealing to Japanese audiences with the hopes of gaining some niche following outside of Japan.
Another interesting trivia was how Yoko Taro commented on the common remark on how NieR: Automata is a dark story by saying that the game is more of a “strange story”.
By the end, producer Yosuke Saito assured audiences that he would continue to push and publish more of the NieR series as long as Yoko Taro is alive and kicking, however, he did not give further details regarding future NieR projects.
Although, Yosuke Saito alluded that there is another project that he and Yoko Taro are working on, concluding his speech by saying that he hopes to share more information sometime next year.
