Apple has announced Season 2 and the release date of its popular dinosaur documentary, Prehistoric Planet, to air on Apple TV+.
In a press release, Apple says that Season 2 of Prehistoric Planet will release on May 22nd, 2023 and follow a night-by-night release, just like the first season.
“The award-winning first season of ‘Prehistoric Planet’ brought dinosaurs back to life in a way global audiences had never seen before,” said Jay Hunt, Creative Director, Europe, Apple TV+. “Collaborating with the brilliant Jon Favreau and our fantastic partners at the BBC, we are thrilled that viewers will once again have the opportunity to be immersed in our world as it was 66 million years ago and to experience even more weird and wonderful creatures.”
Prehistoric Planet is a series of dinosaur documentaries, co-produced with the BBC focusing on presenting the prehistoric world as one populated by animals, instead of make-believe monsters.
The first season featured a different biome in every episode, with short vignettes of animals living in that environment and interacting with each other, narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
It received a lot of praise for its VFX and animal design- depicting Dinosaurs in a realistic way with plenty of speculative ideas such as T.Rex swimming or Carnotaurus using its tiny arms for a mating display.
