Today we compile two major reviews on two different products. One of it is the latest entry for the recent release Predator Helios 300 OCT. Another one of the review will be on the latest season for Apex Legends, Meltdown.
Predator Helios 300 OCT
The Predator Helios 300 OCT has a lot of the functions of the past model. In terms of software, it retains the very easy to navigate PREDATORSENSE. This is a software to help everyone from different backgrounds to adjust towards needs for any situations. Here are a few functions that we can find in the software:
- Home
- Allows you to change a few settings generically.
- Check the temperatures for your CPU, GPU and the overall system
- Lighting
- To change your keyboard lighting profile or settings
- Overclocking your GPU
- Fan Speed control for both of the rear fans
- CPU, GPU and system Monitoring
- Game Sync
- to set a profile when you play on each game
- App Center
- To let you launch your apps and uninstall them
- Acer TrueHarmony
- To set a preset profile for the audio to mimic a surround sound 7.1 effect.
The display is outstanding. The monitor features a FHD with 144Hz and 3ms IPS panel. I personally use the XB272 ever since it launched and the IPS panel is something I have to get used to. TN (Twisted Neural) panel compared to the IPS panel has fewer colour variants.
Our version of Predator Helios 300 OCT features the specs as shown below.
The processors uses Intel’s Core i7-9750H which can go up till 4.5 Ghz, a very standard i7 to be on a middle tier gaming laptop. Other than that we have only 8 GB of RAM but we can assure you that you can go full blown 32 GB RAM if you want to. Coming to the storage, this machine comes with speed as you will be having a 256GB NVMe PCIe Western Digital SN720 (RAID SSD), which you can upgrade to 512GB. If you need more storage, you can add on up to 1TB HDD! Sadly there is no optical drive for this laptop. With the space, they included 2 adjustable fans that you can see from the Predatorsense software. There is a easy mode for you to activate it without actually going into the software, which is by clicking the Turbo button above the keyboard!
But do notice that if the battery is under 40%, you can’t use the Turbo fan mode. Another downside of having a laptop with super fast fan speed is the noise that it can produce. Let me just tell you that it will drown your game volume if you are under 60 in this laptop volume.
You can choose 3 different models of GPU, GTX 1660 ti (Laptop), RTX 2060 (Laptop) or RTX 2070 (Laptop). Our model comes with a RTX 2060 6GB which is superb for a mid tier gaming laptop. You can check how the temperature when its on turbo mode and without turbo mode after running Unigine.
Without Turbo
With Turbo on
It is actually working pretty well with the Turbo mode on. The Turbo fan function also helps in improving the overall gaming performance when the laptop in set in the High Performance battery mode. Impressive! Although the GPU compartment (empty space above the keyboard) and the hand rest below the keyboard is cooling, the keyboard itself is very hot. After 30 min of playing Apex at the highest settings, I can’t rest my fingers and palm on the keyboard anymore. The laptop have a decent amount of inputs that you may find handy.
- 1 USB Type-C
- 2 USB Type-A ver. 3.1 Gen 2
- 1 USB Type-A
- HDMI 2.0
- Mini Display port
- Gigabit LAN (Killer E2500) Slot
- Gigabit Wi-Fi 5 (2×2 MU_MIMO)
- Bluetooth 5.0
- 3.5mm Audio Jack
There are also other features such as,
- Web Camera
- Backlit Keyboard
- Digital-array microphone
- Speakers
- Security Lock slot
Apex Legends Season 3
We also tried out with the newly released Apex Legends Season 3. With Crypto joining the new lineup, I must say, to play him requires a well organized team. The drone needs a bit of practice to master it, but as an offensive player, Crypto won’t be my first pick after trying him out a number of games with different environments.

Season 3 this time brings a huge impact towards the game. By remapping the whole game, there are a lot of areas that I couldn’t get a hang of when I’m playing the game. In the video, there was a problem with the recording software so I only manage to capture 30 FPS for the gameplay. In my experience of playing on the laptop, it was very smooth, the colours are all crisp and sharp. There is a new gun that was introduced within this season, Charge Rifle. Shooting with this gun was so satisfying, and the iron sight is pretty good! I only struggle a bit with the screen size being 15″ HAHA!
Overall, the game manages to achieve a firm 70 FPS when I’m travelling and fighting with the highest setting and Turbo on. If given a chance, I would take this from the office and play the game all night and day then skip the next day of work and call sick, LMAO.
Personally, I think if you are a person who travels a lot or a person who just doesn’t like to stay home, this is the best choice for the price range and the specs that they offer! Give it a try at your nearby Acer affiliated store!
Check them out at their official website here! If you want to give Apex Legend a go, you can head to Origin and download their platform here!
