The Fullmetal Alchemist Exhibition is being held in Malaysia for the first time, and as fans of the series, it certainly made us excited to see everything on display. With all sorts of various zones to visit and take pictures of, we grabbed out pocket watches and headed down to Pavilion Bukit Jalil to see what’s in store for us.
For those who are curious, there are over 300 items on display at the Fullmetal Alchemist Exhibition, with items ranging from manga manuscripts, colour illustrations, and even the costumes from the live action film adaptation.
There are a total of seven zones for visitors to explore, each having their own themes that makes them stand out from one another.
Getting in the Zone
Entering the first zone, we are greeted by the main characters of the series, the Elric brothers, and got to see some of the iconic scenes from the manga. Going through this zone certainly made us feel nostalgic considering it’s been a long time since the series ended, so looking back at some of those scenes made us want to revisit the manga and anime again.
The next zone brings us to see the series’ main antagonist being the homunculi, the race of artificial humanoids that are personified by the creator’s darkest aspects, with each named after one of the Seven Deadly Sins. After that, we were then introduced to the Military Department zone, which includes content from the manga related to the military faction in the series, the State Military of Amestris.
Next up, we got to enter the zone that brings us to see the relationship between the Elric brothers and their father, Van Hohenheim, who suddenly disappeared during the brother’s infancy. Just like with the other zones, this zone also shows off several iconic scenes from the manga.
Coming towards the Last Battle zone, there is a section featuring a looping strip from the manga, accompanied with voice recordings. When looking at it, it made us reminisce about the epic scenes that happened during the final fight.
After that, we finally get to the epilogue, which brings us to see the lives of the characters after the climactic fight. Of course, there’s also the manga panel that shows the heartwarming scene of Edward, Alphonse, and Winry finally being able to reunite with one another.
The last zone features various colourful illustration pieces made by series creator, Hiromu Arakawa himself. There’s also several artwork specially created for this overseas exhibition too!
Visitors of the exhibition can also head on over to the merchandise section to get their hands on some official Fullmetal Alchemist merch. Among the various goodies, you can get shikishis, clear folders, plushies, keychains, badges, and more to show off your love for the series.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors can also participate in interactive activities as you’ll be provided with a brochure containing six spaces, and have to collect a stamp after visiting each of the zones. Collecting all six stamps, you’ll be handed a special certification at the counter by the exit. As for the details of said certification? Well, that’s something for you to find out when coming over to the exhibition!
