The newest expansion for the Sword and Shield rotation of the Pokemon TCG, titled Brilliant Stars, is available now at all supporting local game stores.
The expansion features a new mechanic, as well as a whole selection of new cards including the legendary Arceus in conjunction with the release of Pokemon Legends Arceus.
The new card type in the expansion is called VSTAR, and maximizes the risk-reward playstyle the V-series of cards brings with extremely powerful once-per-game abilities.
Note that the VStar limitation applies to all VSTAR powers- so once you use one, you’re not allowed to use any others, even if it’s from a different card. Choose wisely!
Like other sets in the Sword & Shield rotation, Pokemon TCG Brilliant Stars also features more V Pokemon and VMAX, letting you bring powerful Pokemon with shocking abilities to your roster to show your opponent what’s up.
A great example of this would be the new VMAX Mimikyu, which can put 13 damage counters over your opponent’s team in any way you like thanks to Ominous Numbers- great for farming prize cards by picking off damaged Pokemon or focusing down a particularly annoying Pokemon that’s been retreated to the bench.
The best part? This attack only costs two energy, but it will require you to play the Trainer card Acerola’s Premonition first. Still, it’s enough to make out with at least one prize card if your opponent isn’t careful, so consider running this to teach your opponents not to mess with Mimikyu.
More Trainer Gallery Cards That Feature Your Favorite Characters
If you’re just after great collectible art, you’ll also be pleased to know that Pokemon TCG Brilliant Stars will also feature more Trainer Gallery cards, showcasing Pokemon and their traners from the Pokemon games and anime hanging out together.
From classic trainers like Blue to new characters like Sonia from Sword and Shield, you’ll want to make sure you pick up your favorite trainers in packs from this expansion.
You can check out all the cards available in Pokemon TCG Brilliant Stars over at the Pokemon TCG Website, and you can pick up booster packs for the expansion at your friendly local game store.
