The Pokemon Company has announced that they’ll be building a Pokemon theme park in collaboration with Universal Studios Japan, with the park due out by the end of 2022.
The announcement was made via the Universal Studios Japan website, where they published their statements on the upcoming attraction which we’ve translated via DeepL.
Specific Pokemon attractions haven’t been mentioned- only that the two companies are coming together to bring one of the most successful franchises in the world together with Universal Studios Japan.
“By combining the world’s favorite Pokémon with Universal Studios Japan’s entertainment technology, we will create a world that no one has yet seen on an overwhelming scale and quality. As the only place where people’s hearts and minds are connected and their instincts deep inside are released, we hope to boost the tourism market and be a place chosen by people all over the world”, says J.L. Bonnier, President and CEO of Universal Studios.
“Through this alliance, we hope to produce new Pokémon entertainment at theme parks by collaborating with Universal Studios Japan’s creative vision and world-class technology. I am looking forward to the day when everyone around the world will be able to experience it”, says Tsunekazu Ishihara, President of The Pokemon Company.
This isn’t the first time The Pokemon Company has tried to bring the world of Pokemon into ours. Pokemon Centers are their iconic stores full of Pokemon merchandise, sometimes having installations like a touch-screen Pokedex or a life-sized Mewtwo (pictured at the top of the article) sitting in a tank.
They’ve also had the Pokemon Fossil Museum, which uses Pokemon to teach the public about prehistoric animals and the Pokemon based off of them.
Meanwhile, this also isn’t Universal Studios Japan’s first rodeo either, having handled the Super Mario World Theme Park.
