One of the surprise reveals of the night, Pokemon announced Pokemon Legends Arceus , an all new open world title set in the Sinnoh region.
The game won’t be available until some time in 2022, and will be available on the Nintendo Switch. Unlike the Diamond and Pearl remakes, we don’t have a release window for the game yet.
The game looks like it’s built on the concept of the Wild Area from Sword and Shield, with Pokemon roaming the overworld. It looks like you won’t have to fight them to catch them, as the trailer shows you being able to roll and sneak up on Pokemon before trying to catch them with a Pokeball.
That being said,Pokemon Legends Arceus still has combat, where you summon your Pokemon to battle wild Pokemon. You’ll also get a unique selection of starters, mixing Cyndaquil from Gen 2, Rowlett from Gen 7 and Oshawott from Gen 5. From the trailer it looks like they’ve improved battle animations compared to Sword and Shield, having your Pokemon actually travel to enemy pokemon to do attacks.
An interesting note is that it has the mythical Pokemon Arceus as its version mascot, meaning this could be the first game that lets you capture the Pokemon rather than receive it through events.
