Fans playing Pokemon Go on older devices will want to get ready as their devices will no longer be supported. Niantic confirms that in the ver 0.189, scheduled in October, the game would drop support for outdated devices.
Pokemon Go will no longer support the following devices:
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 6
- Any device running iOS 10 or 11
- Phones running Android 5.
Niantic says that even if the game is still playable on these devices, technical support will no longer be available if players have any issues.
Fans should update their phone’s OS or model to continue playing the game. To carry over progress, you simply need to re-log in to your account.
Upgrading your phone also gives players access to features like AR+. This allows players to take more realistic AR photos of their Pokemon, as they scale according to their height and distance.
AR+ also adds a fun minigame to capturing wild Pokemon, whereby you have to sneak up on them.
The update is noticeably scheduled for October, which is after the game’s current Mega Evolution event. So players still have plenty of time to keep their devices up-to-date.
