According to Famitsu, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Peal have moved 1,395,642 units in sales during its launch week in the Japanese market. The number also does not include the digital sales from the Nintendo E-shop.
This means that Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have already surpassed Pokemon Sword and Shield’s sales in the same time period, two games that have already become two of the highest selling in the franchise. It has even become the second fastest-selling switch game after Animal Crossing New Horizons in 2020.
It isn’t just Japan either, Gameindustry.biz found Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl had the fifth biggest launch for a Pokemon game so it is doing well around the world.
Reasons for these high sales, besides the fact that it’s a Pokemon game, may be due to them being remakes of Diamond and Pearl. The gen 4 games are often considered some of the best games in the franchise and are held in high regard by fans. That nostalgia could have driven up the game’s sales.
Despite Pokemon often being the subject of controversy due to the feeling of many fans that the series has become complacent or lacking in content or graphical capabilities, the series continues to thrive nonetheless.
