The POCO F6 Pro is the newest model on Xiaomi’s lineup of smartphones, featuring the latest in terms of computing power, charging capabilities and screen technology. It comes packaged with Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2, 120W HyperCharge, and WQHD+ Flow AMOLED, promising the best capabilities for its price tag from RM2,499 onwards.
In this review, we will be going over and analyzing some of its features and functions, to see if it lives up to its declarations and if it’s worth the price.
Design
With a metal frame, the POCO F6 Pro weighs 209g, which is a normal weight for a phone nowadays, being neither too heavy nor noticeably lighter than average. It is quite comfortable to hold as well.
The back features a unique design with a matte finish and a marble-like pattern and is resistant to fingerprints, and golden colored ring design with black and yellow clash for triple camera unit, significantly enhancing the overall phone design. You don’t have to worry about it looking the same as other phones.
The screen is a 6.67-inch ultra-clear WQHD+ 120Hz Flow AMOLED Dot Display with ultra-slim bezels. The operation is smooth and the colors are vibrant, providing an immersive visual experience. Additionally, it boasts a brightness of 4,000 nits, ensuring excellent visibility even under direct sunlight.
Performance
POCO F6 Pro is equipped with Xiaomi HyperOS and the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, engineered with groundbreaking AI capabilities. The version we have in hand comes with with 16GB RAM and 1TB ROM, ensuring download of every game you want to play without hesitation over storage capacity.
The F6 Pro also features an upgraded WildBoost Optimization 3.0, which offers speedy loading times for smooth gameplay and instant touch accuracy for users.
It can be unlocked using an in-screen fingerprint sensor or your own face. Wet touch display technology improves touch recognition when your hands are wet. As a test, we tried scrolling through YouTube with wet hands, and faced virtually no difficulty.
The speaker is very loud and provides ample surround sound even though it is located next to the charging port. However, the sound can be a bit harsh sometimes. So, you wouldn’t want to listen to music or play any games at its maximum volume setting.
Game Turbo
Game Turbo is a built-in app that makes it possible to enhance device performance. It kills off any unwanted CPU throttling and prevents apps from using excess resources.
You can adjust each game GPU setting, touch controls, enhanced visuals, and set the touch-resistant area. If your game didn’t appear in the Game Turbo library, you can also add them manually.
Thanks to it, most games we ran on it had stellar performances and frame rates, even with a few games on high quality graphics such as Wuthering Waves and Honkai Star Rail.
Here is a list of all the games we tried on the F6 Pro and their performances:
- Wuthering Waves: Graphic setting at advanced quality+60FPS, Stable 58-60FPS, no lag when using Ultimate skills or running around the map.
- Honkai Star Rail: Graphic setting at high quality+60FPS, Stable 58-60FPS, no lag when using Ultimate skills or running around the map.
- PUBG Mobile: Graphic setting at Smooth, Stable 120FPS, but without nice graphics. If changed to HDR, it can reach a stable 60FPS.
- COD Warzone Mobile: Graphic setting focused on frame rate and smooth gameplay, averaging at 55-60FPS.
- Diablo Immortal: Graphic setting at high quality+60FPS, stable 60FPS
Battery
The battery life is quite impressive, featuring a 5000mAh battery with 120W fast charging technology. In our test, it charged from 14% to 100% in just 29 minutes. Starting at 100% battery, after 30 minutes of playing Wuthering Waves at medium settings and 60 FPS, the battery dropped to 86%.
When your battery level drops to around 1%, the device will activate ‘Hibernation’ mode. This mode lets users access basic functions such as SMS and phone calls, ensuring users can stay connected in emergency situations, but disables use of other apps until it is recharged.
The all-new LiquidCool Technology 4.0 also helps to keep it cool. Even when we played games non-stop for an hour, the temperature consistently stayed around 45℃.
Photography
The F6 Pro features 3 camera lenses: a 50MP main camera with OIS and a high dynamic range Light Fusion 800 image sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. There’s also a 16MP selfie camera located on the other side of the phone.
There are 2 main highlights to the camera functions. Burst Shot Mode 2.0 allows you to capture unmissable lightning-fast action shots, delivering 50 shots in a single burst at 30 frames per second.
Meanwhile, Ultra Night Algorithm enables shooting in even the most extreme low-light situations, capturing clear, bright images with more accurate colors thanks to innovative deep learning AI algorithms.
Overall, the image quality is okay. It’s not very impressive, but at least it’s not too bad, as expected from a phone of its price.
AI
Of course, being a 2024 phone, the F6 Pro naturally comes with some AI features, including:
- Al Subtitles (Available for BETA Access)
- Al Expansion
- Al Portrait
- Al Album Search
- Al Magic Erase Pro
Despite this list, we only found the AI Expansion and AI Magic Erase Pro features during our testing period. AI Expansion uses AI to extend your photo beyond the original frame, while AI Magic Erase Pro is designed to erase photobombs, dust, and other unwanted elements. These functions are really helpful when you want to edit your photo and skip an otherwise complicated and lengthy process.
Conclusion
This flagship phone is indeed one of the best choices in terms of high cost-performance and top-notch performance. The POCO F6 Pro brings significant improvements in display, phone design, camera, software support, and charging.
However, compared to the F5 Pro, some good features have been removed, such as wireless charging and IP53 dust and water resistance.
If you think the 16GB RAM + 1TB ROM isn’t necessary, you can also consider the 12GB RAM + 512GB ROM option, priced at just RM2,499, while the 16GB RAM + 1TB ROM version costs RM2,899.
