You may be wondering how exactly they’re going to adapt Gran Turismo into a movie when the games don’t have much of a plot. Well, it turns out the movie is actually based on a true story involving Gran Turismo.
The Gran Turismo movie will be based on the career of Jann Mardenborough, a British professional racing driver who has competed and won the Japanese Super GT series. He started off as a huge fan of the Gran Turismo video games who would go on to be the third winner of the GT Academy Competition, a televised competition organized by Nissan and PlayStation to train candidates in Motorsports. They would start off playing the Gran Turismo game before moving up to the real deal.
The new adaptation will see Mardenborough’s journey from a simple GT fan to a star racer. The plot has been described as “the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver”.
The director of the movie is Neill Blomkamp who’s most well-known for his work on District 9 and Elysium, with the screenplay being made by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin.
Here are the rest of the main cast:
- David Harbour as Jack Slater
- Orlando Bloom as Danny Moore
- Archie Madekwe as Jann Mardenborough
- Darren Barnet as TBA
- Geri Halliwell Horner as Jann’s Mother
- Djimon Hounsou as Jann’s Father
The Gran Turismo movie will be premiering in August of 2023 in most regions.
Gran Turismo 7, the latest game in the video game franchise, is available for the PS5.
