PlayStation Unveils Dark Odyssey Collection and Merchandise for God of War 20th Anniversary

Sony’s Santa Monica Studio has announced a series of celebrations to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the God of War franchise, which officially began on March 22, 2005. The studio is offering both digital and physical items for fans to celebrate the milestone.

The centerpiece of the celebration is the free Dark Odyssey Collection update for God of War Ragnarök, launching March 20th for all PlayStation and PC players. The update includes a black and gold themed appearance pack for Kratos, his companions, and all weapons and shields. The design is inspired by the working title of the original God of War and a skin from God of War II that was previously only available after completing the game on God Mode difficulty.

The update will also add a new edit appearance feature for weapon attachments and shield components, allowing players to customize Kratos’ arsenal with their preferred visuals while maintaining their desired gameplay functionality.

Beyond the game update, Santa Monica Studio has partnered with several companies for anniversary merchandise, including:

• A two-volume God of War: 20th Anniversary Retrospective book set chronicling the series’ development history (pre-orders opening March 17)
• Art prints from Cook and Becker featuring key moments from the franchise (pre-orders opening March 18)
• A 67-inch Jörmungandr plush that doubles as a puppet (pre-orders opening March 19)
• A 13-disc vinyl collection spanning the entire franchise’s soundtracks from Laced Records (pre-orders opening March 20)
• A t-shirt collection from Insert Coin featuring all nine God of War games (pre-orders opening March 21)

A free anniversary-themed fan kit including social media assets, wallpapers, and PlayStation Network avatars is available now, with additional items coming to the Steam Points Shop on March 20. The studio is also hosting a gallery exhibition in partnership with Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles from March 15-23, featuring artwork from current and former Santa Monica Studio developers.

Moreover, PlayStation Plus members can currently access God of War Ragnarök (Premium and Extra tiers), God of War 2018 (Extra and Premium tiers), and God of War III Remastered (Premium tier) at no additional cost. Both God of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarök are also on sale for PC players until March 20.
