At Sony’s CES 2020 conference, the first details of the Playstation 5, handily dubbed the PS5, were revealed! You can see the official logo in the feature image, which hasn’t been changed much from the PS4. The conference also revealed some statistics from the PS4 which you can see below:
- 106 million PS4 systems sold
- 1.15 billion PS4 games sold
- 5 million PS VR units sold
- 103 million monthly active users
- 38.8 million PS Plus subscribers
On to the real meat though. The PS5 reveal at CES 2020 shows we can expect the following:
- 3D Audio Sound
- Haptics / adaptive triggers
- Ultra-high speed SSD
- Hardware-based ray tracing
- Ultra HD Blu-ray
This doesn’t necessarily confirm the rumours of backwards compatibility that we’ve covered before, but it’s nonetheless an exciting future for the next generation of home consoles. The PS5 itself is still keeping its Holiday 2020 launch, and with the Xbox Series X also on the horizon, one could say the scene is heating up.
We still haven’t seen a confirmed look for the PS5, so we will have to wait longer till Sony decides the hardware is ready to be shown off. We could expect it at E3 this year, but we’ll see.
