President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, has kicked off the Playstation Play At Home Initiative, starting with Journey and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Staying at home helps contain the spread of COVID-19, and this initiative is meant to aid that by:
- Providing free games to help keep the PlayStation community entertained at home
- Establishing a fund to help smaller independent game studios who may be experiencing financial difficulties continue building great experiences for all gamers
From 15 April 8PM PDT to 5 May 2020 8PM PDT, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey will be available for free via digital downloads thanks to this Playstation Play At Home initiative. Once redeemed, the games will be yours to keep.
The Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection contains three games from the masters at Naughty Dog, including Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception as remastered for the PS4. Join the titular Nathan Drake, and an iconic cast of characters, on a thrilling, treasure-hunting romp.
On the other end of the spectrum, you have Journey, a beautiful, celebrated adventure that is as moving as it is mysterious. The game’s life-affirming message is timeless, and perhaps more important now than ever before.
In order to preserve Internet access in the US and Europe, game downloads may take a little longer, so SIE appreciates that players be understanding and patient.
Besides providing free games, SIE has also developed a fund to support smaller gaming studios, earmarking $10 million for their independent development partners. Information about the fund, including participation criteria, will be made available soon.
