During the PlayStation Showcase, the publisher announced a new handheld device under the codename Project Q which will be able to stream PS5 games for portable play.
The handheld device will release later this year with PlayStation revealing a teaser trailer for Project Q alongside the first-ever PlayStation brand earbuds.
“Take a sneak peek at new accessories revealed at today’s Showcase — the Project Q device for playing games installed on your PS5 and streaming over WiFi, plus our first official wireless earbuds offering lossless audio on PS5 and PC. More details to come in the months ahead”.
The Project Q device has an 8-inch HD screen set between grips that resemble a PS5 DuelSense controller. PlayStation has further specified that games played on Project Q must be installed on the user’s PS5 and that it is not compatible with VR games.
This isn’t the first time PlayStation has experimented with streaming console games via a handheld device. The PlayStation Vita was also updated and advertised as a device that could stream PS4 games on the go. I suppose Project Q can be seen as the latest step in that technology.
The Project Q handheld device will be released later this year.
