According to Torrent Freak, the developer of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, PUBG Corp. has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against two mobile games – Rules of Survival and Knives Out under NetEase Games. The company accused that NetEase’s games copied certain elements (including the look and feel) from PUBG, yet releasing them earlier than PUBG‘s own mobile game to grab market share.
The 155-page court document listed a long summary of elements that PUBG believes are infringing on its copyrighted works, which includes the landscapes, the pre-game area, equipment, weapons as well as its iconic “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” salute.
Also, both NetEase’s games are advertised and regularly referred to as a mobile version of PUBG in the marketplace, which confuse costumers into believing that Rules of Survival and Knives Out was related or developed by PUBG.
PUBG has even reached out to Apple asking the company to take action against the “PUBG clones” back in January, however NetEase denied the allegations which leaves PUBG no other option than to take legal actions. Other than wanting both mobile games to be removed permanently, the company also asks all parties at NetEase to stop working on any similarly infringing games.
NetEase has yet to respond to the lawsuit until the moment this article is published. What do you think about the case? Leave your opinion in the comment section below!
