Brendan Greene, more widely known as PlayerUnknown, will be leaving PUBG Corporation and Krafton to form PlayerUnknown Productions.
PlayerUnknown Productions is a new independent video game development studio and will be based in Amsterdam. Krafton is also holding a minority stake in the studio.
According to Greene:
“I’m so very grateful to everyone at PUBG and Krafton for taking a chance on me and for the opportunities they afforded me over the past four years. Today, I’m excited to take the next step on my journey to create the kind of experience I’ve envisaged for years. Again, I’m thankful for everyone at Krafton for supporting my plans, and I’ll have more to reveal more about our project at a later date.”
PUBG players can rest assured—they will not find Greene’s departure to have any major effect on the game. He already moved away from active development of the game back in 2019.
Greene’s contribution to the video game industry as a whole is unprecedented. The name ‘PlayerUnknown’ is synonymous with PUBG and the battle royal genre as a whole. From its early days as a DayZ mod to arguably the most popular video game genre at the moment, battle royale has come a long way thanks to Greene.
