We had the opportunity to interview the four semifinalists of the APAC Predator League 2025 Valorant tournament, each bringing their unique perspectives and strategies to the competition. The semifinals feature an exciting lineup of teams from across Asia Pacific, with Xipto Esports (Malaysia), ZOL Esports (Philippines), Crest Gaming Zst (Japan), and Alter Ego (Indonesia) all vying for the championship title.
Home Team Advantage: Xipto Esports’ Dominant Run
Malaysia’s representatives, Xipto Esports, have shown impressive form, particularly in their group stage performance where they dominated without dropping into double-digit rounds against any opponent. The team recently underwent a roster change, bringing in newcomer Iceyyy after their former captain pursued other opportunities.
Their coach reflected positively on the team’s progress: “They put in all the effort that I wanted them to, everything I wanted fixed, they fixed. Like some things were just instant… they worked really hard. You know, they listened to what I had to say, applied almost instantly.”
Speaking about representing Malaysia, the team expressed pride: “It’s been very fun to represent Malaysia. And you know, we’ve never seen Malaysia being in good tournaments, like doing a good run. So it’s been pretty good putting Malaysia on top again.”
ZOL Esports: The Two-Week Wonder
In a remarkable turn of events, ZOL Esports has made it to the semifinals despite having only two weeks of practice with their new roster. When asked about pressure playing against the home team Xipto, they remained confident: “I think there’s not really much pressure on us. I think the pressure is on them because they’re playing in their home country.”
Their relaxed approach stems from strong team support: “What our coach always tells us is just to enjoy the game… even our team owner, our boss, he’s telling us like no matter what happens, win or lose, as long as everyone’s enjoying it, he’s happy for us.”
Regarding their playstyle against other regions, ZOL noted: “PH teams and like Asia teams are pretty much the same. Because like Asian people, I think when we play, we’re always like aggressive… Sometimes you don’t need to think.”
Crest Gaming Zst: The Japanese Tacticians
Crest Gaming Zst brings a different flavor to the tournament, representing Japan’s more methodical approach to the game. The team highlighted the contrast in regional playstyles: “I feel the domestic and Japanese teams are not as aggressive as Asian teams… they feel that the teams here are more looking at the overall game, the play. Not only the typical points they are taking, but also the consistent game.”
Alter Ego: The Tournament Favorites
Indonesian powerhouse Alter Ego enters the semifinals carrying high expectations, but maintains their composure: “No pressure for us because we’ve been doing this for one year together and we’ve played a lot of offline tournaments.”
Their approach to high-pressure situations is notably measured: “For high pressure moments, we tend to breathe on ourselves and we can chill our teams. It’s okay, we got good preparations and we got fitted as well. Whatever happens in the game, we tend to just chill and just calm each other.”
When asked about their strategy, they emphasized self-focus: “We just enjoy the game, like not really caring about the opponent. Because I think we are better when we are not thinking of the enemy… the one that can beat us is just ourselves.”
Interestingly, they ranked their competition in the semifinals: “I think the first one is our first opponent in the semifinals, the Crest Gaming Zst from Japan. Number two, I think ZOL Esports from the Philippines. And number three, the last one, Xipto Esports.”
The Clash of Playstyles
A fascinating aspect of the APAC Predator League 2025 Valorant semifinals is the contrast in regional playstyles. While teams from the Philippines and other Southeast Asian regions are noted for their aggressive approach, Japanese teams like Crest Gaming bring a more structured and methodical style to the tournament. This diversity in tactical approaches promises exciting matchups in the upcoming games, with each team bringing their unique regional flavor to the competition.
The semifinals will demonstrate whether Xipto’s home ground advantage, ZOL’s fresh energy, Crest’s tactical approach, or Alter Ego’s experience will prevail in this high-stakes tournament.
