The Pokemon Company have announced a special set of Pikachu cards for the franchise’s 25th anniversary, with multiple cards celebrating the iconic mascot’s own history.
These are included as part of the Pokemon TCG 25th Anniversary Collection, and feature homages to old Pikachu cards such as Surfing Pikachu, Flying Pikachu The set also includes Base Set Pikachu, which is redrawn by Mitsuhiro Arita, who drew the original base set Pikachu. The illustration features a more alive background, featuring other Pokemon from the first generation like Caterpie and Parasect.
On top of that, it will also feature new V-Max forms for all of these Pikachu, all with their own unique abilities.
Finally, the set will also include the four pieces to make V-Union Pikachu, which features a collaborative illustration from all the artists who’ve drawn Pokemon’s iconic mascot over the years.
In addition, if you buy more than 4 booster packs from the 25th Anniversary Collection set at participating Pokemon Centre stores, you’ll also receive a special 25th Anniversary Edition booster pack, which includes reprints of iconic cards from the TCG’s history. With all this Pikachu news for the 25th anniversary, Birthday Pikachu has been announced to be part of the lineup for these reprints, alongside Base Set Venusaur.
Coming To The West
It should be noted that while this announcement was for the Japanese release of the game, the contents of this set would be coming as part of the Celebrations set for English fans in October. There’s been no mention on if this includes the 25th Anniversary Edition booster pack as well, however.
