We’re back with another card preview for Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and this time features the Persuasive Interrogators who will be arriving in the upcoming Murders at Karlov Manor Expansion, thanks to our friends at Wizards of the Coast.
Persuasive Interrogators is a 6-cost creature Black card with the ability to inflict and ramp up poison counters to unsuspecting opponents, and might just be the next favorite for poison-mechanic fans.
While Persuasive Interrogators may be an expensive card, it does have a powerful effect that poison decks would enjoy.
For those who are unfamiliar, the poison counter, unlike other counters, is placed on the opponent and once ten or more are accumulated, the inflicted player loses the game regardless of their current Life count.
The effect of Persuasive Interrogators is as follows:
When Persuasive Interrogators enters the battlefield, investigate. (Create a Clue token. It’s an artifact with “2, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card.”)
Whenever you sacrifice a Clue, target opponent gets two poison counters. (A player with ten or more poison counters loses the game.)
Due to its cost, the Persuasive Interrogators is best played at the later stages where there are plenty Mana to spare, especially since you need to spend another 2 Mana to sacrifice the Clue token to activate Persuasive Interrogators’ secondary effect. This allows for surprise tactics and potential OTK to opponents who are not aware of what is up your sleeve, especially considering that added 2 poison counters can be quick to ramp up.
There are also plenty of other cards that have effects that trigger upon sacrificing a Clue token, opening room up for potential synergy and strategic consideration with the Persuasive Interrogators.
And that’s it for this round’s card preview! Persuasive Interrogators will be available as part of Murders at Karlov Manor, the ninety-ninth expansion for MTG, available February 9th, 2024. Our thanks to Wizards of the Coast for letting us check out this card ahead of the set’s release!
