A new mobile game shown off yesterday developed by Perfect World might actually be a Persona mobile game, bringing the franchise to smartphones and tablets.
Code Name X is certainly a game that shares a lot of similarities to the Persona series- down to the art style of its key art being eerily similar to promotional art for Persona 5, as well as what appears to be the iconic Shibuya making an appearance. From here though, any assumptions that the title is a Persona mobile game would still be speculation.
However, industry analyst Danial Ahmad reported on Twitter that his own sources within Perfect World have confirmed to him that the title is very much a Persona game on the mobile platform. According to him, the title is only set for release in China at the moment, similar to other mobile entries of popular series like Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat.
Fans had also made their own speculations via the fansite Persona Central, saying that promotional images used had filenames containing the phrase “P5” as well as a binary sequence in the trailer translating to the word Persona. Without Danial Ahmad’s sources as the kicker though, those amount to little more than speculation.
Perfect World hasn’t officially issued a statement clarifying the issue, but there’s plenty of evidence to draw your own conclusions. The Shin Megami Tensei franchise is no stranger to mobile, and plenty of big triple-A titles are getting their own mobile spin-offs, so it makes sense Persona would follow suit.
